Typographic Compositions

Typographic Compositions is my follow-up series to Number Word Vignettes.

In this limited series, I’ve combined elements of collage and paint, with letters and numbers that are not perfectly formed and in some cases are intentionally skewed or cut off. Taking cues from deconstructionism, along with graphic design influences from the likes of David Carson and Chris Ashworth, the typographic forms are turned into abstract shapes that overlap each other, are reversed, or are tightly cropped.

The pieces are slightly textured and show signs of wear with a patina that gives the impression of age and decay, creating a sense of imperfection and impermanence.

All of the art is on canvas and combines the collage elements with a variety of mediums including paint, pencil, oil stick, and roofing tar.
